2008 Edo Competition Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Versione Nardo

October 21st, 2007. A 4am wake-up Espresso has to suffice. The remaining drowsiness disappears as soon as the 6.5 ltr. V12, now with 663 hp, is fired up. Re-torque the wheels once again. After checking the pressure of the new Continental V-max tires the edo competition LP 640 Versione Nardo rolls onto the 12.6 km (7.8 miles) long oval. Each contestant has 3 laps: The first one as the warm-up lap, the second one as the high-speed lap and the third one as the cool down lap. By now it’s 6am, the sun is rising over the test track. It’s chilly with light winds, but above all -It’s dry. On this Sunday morning the warm-up lap is driven at speeds between 280 and 300 km/h (174-186 mph). Particular attention is paid to vibrations, oil-and water-temperatures. It feels good, the LP 640, and thanks to the newly developed rear wing it’s so fantastically stable, as if the tires were glued to the south-Italian tarmac. Now it’s on. The second lap counts and the growl of the V12 is turning into an inf...

Lamborghini Edo Murcielago LP640

Edo Competition has tuned supercars from the Ford GT to the Maserati MC12. Naturally, it couldn't resist the opportunity to apply a little nip-and-tuck to the Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 . Speaking of plastic surgery, there's a new rear wing with an adjustable lip, plus a rearview camera and lots of carbon-fiber trim in the cockpit. Edo elected to forego implants, focusing instead on squeezing a tad more juice from the Lambo's already potent 6.5-liter V12. With such tweaks as a recalibrated ECU, high-flow air filters and redesigned stainless-steel exhaust system with high-flow mufflers, the Edo LP640 is bumped to 663 horsepower and 498 pound-feet of torque. Edo estimates 0-60 acceleration in less than 3.8 seconds, with top speed climbing to 216 mph.

The Edo Engineers have managed to squeeze another 23hp out of an already tweaked 6.5 liter V12 engine. In addition, torque is increased from 660Nm to 675 Nm at 5600 rpm. The LP640 also received an exterior tweak with a specially designed rear wing with adjustable lip. On the interior, the Edo Engineers have been kind enough to install a rear view camera, very helpful when parallel parking your supercar at the golf club or office. Also to increase the supercar feel on the inside, carbon fiber has been inserted into the interior trim. Technical Specifications: Engine: 6.5L V12 cylinder Output: 663HP @ 7800 rpm Torque: 675 Nm @ 5600 rpm Performance: Top speed: 216 mph / 348 km/h (estimate) 0 - 62 mph / 0 – 100 km/h: 3.8 s (estimate) Engine Modifications: ECU recalibration Special high-flow air filters Newly designed high-performance catalytic converters New exhaust butterfly valve control (remote-controlled on request) New high-flow muffler New stainless st...

Lamborghini Alar

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — The Lamborghini Alar 777 has been officially launched in Argentina. Unfortunately, since it's too late for us to believe it's an April Fools Day joke, we must wonder if this is simply an intriguing concept gone horribly wrong. The local press and blogs in Argentina have assured the rest of us in the Outside World that the local Lamborghini distributor has indeed launched its own unique kit car of sorts, a rebodied version of the defunct Diablo. The Alar was designed by Joan Ferci, whose previous Diablo-based creations include the Coatl and the Eros GT-1. Under the bizarre skin, the Diablo V12 reportedly has been massaged to deliver 700 horsepower. Ferci claims a top speed of 223 miles per hour. Local sources say the plan is to build only a few hundred vehicles — at $750,000 per copy.

First Drive: 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo

Previews SWM seeks long-term relationship. Willing to pay, prefer Italian, will not import from Thailand. Sorry, ZZ Top, but despite those three letters clustered together in the name, superleggera does not translate to anything directly relating to a woman’s stems. Indirectly, though, you could make the argument. In English, superleggera means “superlight.” What it means is that this newest Gallardo, like the Ferrari F430 Challenge Stradale, leans out a few pounds and packs on a (very) little bit more muscle, giving the car indeed a touch more leg to stretch. Although European-spec Gallardo Superleggeras are lighter by the equivalent of a portly passenger (220 pounds), cars bound for the U.S. lose a trimmer sidekick and come in only 150 pounds lighter than more-pedestrian Gallardos. This is due to our side-impact standards, which mandate that Lamborghini leave the side airbags in the seats. We’ll still get one-piece carbon-fiber sport seats, but with pinhead cushions packed and waitin...
