When it arrives next summer, the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will be the most powerful and fastest production car ever produced by General Motors, with performance enabled by a new, supercharged 6.2L LS9 small-block V-8 engine. Incorporating the engineering experience already found in the Corvette Z06’a LS7 engine and the new-for-2008 6.2L LS3 of the Corvette, GM Powertain is targeting 100 horsepower per liter for the LS9, or 620 horsepower (462 kW), and approximately 595 lb.-ft. of torque (807 Nm); final SAE-certified power levels will be available in early March 2008. DETROIT — The special-edition 2007 Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Champion Corvette Z06 will hit U.S. showrooms in June with a sticker price of $77,500, including an $825 destination charge. A top-of-the-line model with OnStar and a navigation system will be priced at $79,945. The car pays homage to the Canadian racer who scored Corvette Racing's first victory in 2000 and went on to become a three-time American Le Mans Series GT1 champion, a 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner and an overall winner in the Rolex 24 at Daytona with Corvette Racing. That's why Chevy incorporated the Canadian maple leaf on the vehicle's exterior. ZURICH, Switzerland — General Motors will roll out the Corvette C6 Coupe Victory Edition in Europe this March, a vehicle designed to celebrate Corvette Racing victories in such storied venues as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The automaker said it will only build 250 units of the limited-edition model, which comes with a day of professional instruction at selected racetracks across Europe. The Victory Edition is equipped with the LS2 6.0-liter V8 that churns out 404 horsepower and 403 pound-feet of torque, linked to a six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed paddle-shift transmission is optional. The Victory Edition Corvette comes in two race-inspired colors: black or Velocity Yellow. It gets Competition Gray aluminum wheels: 18-inchers in the front and 19s in the rear. A body-color rear spoiler is standard.
