General Motors is known to have had its eye on the niche occupied by the Jeep Wrangler. And at the Detroit auto show next month, it may reveal more of its intentions to field a Wrangler competitor in the shape of the HUMMER HX concept . The HX Concept, shown in sketches at a GM press event today, also embodies some of the off-road hallmarks of the Toyota FJ Cruiser. BUT GM says the design of the new HX concept is all HUMMER , even though it's the work of three new designers. David Rojas, Min Young Kang, and Robert Jablonski are the artists GM assigned to envision a future off-road vehicle for the HUMMER brand. MANCHESTER, U.K. — It's a watershed moment for one of the most iconic American brands. General Motors on Monday took the wraps off a prototype right-hand-drive Hummer H3 , which signals the Detroit brand's commitment to making serious inroads into foreign markets. The automaker said the right-hand-drive H3 will be built in South Africa and will be rolled out to right-hand-drive markets including South Africa, Australia and Japan starting this summer. Pricing for the right-hand-drive H3 will be announced later, GM said. "We are determined to build on the brand's unique recognition in Europe and especially here in the U.K.," said GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz at the opening of a new Hummer showroom here. DETROIT — Until now, moviegoers only got a quick glimpse of the Chevrolet Camaro that stars in Paramount's upcoming Transformers movie via a trailer that hit theaters late last year. The brief clip also offers teaser images of the GMC TopKick truck, Hummer H2 and Pontiac Solstice that will star in what is likely to be the blockbuster film of the summer. But General Motors took the edge off this weekend, releasing several images of its four Transformer vehicles. The Chevrolet Camaro is undoubtedly the über-Transformer, dubbed "Bumblebee," a major character in the saga of aliens who take mechanical forms when on earth. Who'd have thought that Hummer will be in the vanguard of car makers pushing for greener fuels? The all-American icon is coming to the UK with right-hand-drive vehicles in the autumn of 2007 and has promised these cars will be followed by bio-fuel compatible versions within three years. A Hummer insider told us that the company will be taking 'an aggressive approach' to putting forward the case for more fuel stations equipped with bio-fuel pumps. The first Hummer to come with a bio-fuel-ready engine will be the 'baby' H3 , which uses a 3.7-litre five-cylinder unit. Hummer also promises it will add a diesel engine to the H3 range in 2008 , but there are no firm dates or details as yet. All of this means you can look forward to upsetting the tree-free brigade with a Hummer that's environmentally sound. Well, almost.
