[VIDEO] Frankfurt: Mercedes SLK55 AMG revealed

The smallest roadster in Mercedes’ lineup for 2012, the SLK, was revealed during the 64th edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show in an especially AMG-tuned version, which is promising to be more gentle than its larger brothers the CLS and the E63 AMG, and without creating a competition for the successful SL63 AMG.
The German automaker says that its new SLK55 AMG takes its power from a 5.5 liter V8 engine, weighing just 187 kilograms and delivering 415 horsepower at 6.800 rpm and 398 pound-feet of torque at 4.500 rpm, mated to the standard AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic transmission with three electronic modes, with rev-matching on downshifts coming as standard.
Even if the new generation of the SLK55 AMG is offering about 70 horsepower more than the previous one, the fuel consumption has been improved by 30 percent, while its CO2 emissions won’t be more than 200 g/km, all of these with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h of 4.6 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of almost 250 km/h (155 mph).
With the powerful AMG version of the new SLK being launched, Mercedes is taken into consideration the introduction of a 250CDI diesel engine, which will be able to offer a fuel consumption of just 4.9 l every 100 kilometers in an average cycle, with a top speed which will only be 7 km/h slower than the SLK55.
Mercedes didn’t announce when other versions of the SLK will be launched but one thing is for sure: their exterior design will have nothing in common with the SLK55 AMG.
