Ford S-MAX Vehicle Earns 2007 European Car of the Year

Ford S-MAX earns 2007 European Car of the Year

Dana Corporation announced today that it is providing important engine content for the 2007 European Car of the Year, the new Ford S-MAX. Contributions to the Ford S-MAX include Dana's innovative thermal-acoustic protective shielding (TAPS) for the vehicle's exhaust system.

The Ford S-MAX won the European Car of the Year award after receiving nominations from 57 of the 58 award judges on a panel composed of journalists and industry experts from 22 European countries. The trophy was presented this week during a ceremony in Amsterdam.

"We congratulate Ford on earning European Car of the Year, and we are proud to supply technology that helped make the Ford S-MAX an award winner," said Dana Chairman and CEO Mike Burns. "Dana is a global leader in thermal- acoustic protective shields. Our advanced design helps insulate vehicle components from heat and noise generated by the engine and exhaust system."

Dana's form-fitted thermal-acoustic protective shielding incorporates a center layer of material that performs two important functions. Insulating characteristics provide superior thermal performance for the life of the vehicle, while damping properties contribute to improved NVH performance and increased durability. The fully hemmed edge of the shield eliminates sharp edges, secures the insulating and damping properties, and prevents resonate edge noise from occurring. Dana's innovative design also saves valuable under-hood space by closely fitting to the contours of the engine.

TAPS is manufactured at Dana facilities in Canada, Germany, Brazil, and Japan. Dana has been supplying a variety of multi-layer TAPS to several OEMs in Europe for more than 15 years.

First Drive: 2007 Honda Civic GX

Previews Greenie spendthrifts wanted: A heavier, slower Civic with a smaller trunk. Oh, yeah, and it costs 50 percent more. Never mind that we in Michigan are just emerging from our igloos after a long cold winter. The world is heating up, the ice caps are melting, and when that melt is complete, we’ll all be living high in the mountains in houses on stilts to stay dry. Forty days and 40 nights the waters will rage, and when the ice caps refreeze, we’ll all be fighting over who called first dibs on those last two pigs for our celebratory barbecues, since the unicorns were already eaten by sharks. There are people who would argue that that sinister little creation, the automobile, is responsible for it all. We blame Al Gore, China, sweatshops, and greenie celebrities who flit about in private jets. Those who want to make a difference drive hybrids, while those who researched their decision drive diesels. Those who are truly enlightened and want to make a difference, however, seek someth...
